Russ Paine, PT

 Clinical Pearl and Techniques Tha Work.

Russ Paine, PT is the Director of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

 
He received his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University,  and his PT degree from

Texas Women’s University School of Physical Therapy.


Russ has been involved in sports medicine his entire career. He began to develop his expertise by working and training with David Drez, M.D. of Lake Charles Louisiana. Russ has worked in conjunction with sports medicine physicians in the Houston area from 1991 to present. He has served as a rehabilitation consultant to the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, and NASA.  Russ continues to devote his time to research and education while maintaining a busy sports medicine clinical practice.  

Serving on the planning committee of the Sports Physical Therapy Section for the Traveling Fellowship and Team Concept Meeting, Russ is involved on a national level with sports medicine education.  Russ is also a founding member of the ICCUS society and is a member of the SPTS and the AOSSM.  Paine received the Career Service Award from the American Sports Medicine Institute in 2009 from Dr. James Andrews and was inducted into the Sports Physical Therapy Hall of Fame in 2018. As a well established author and lecturer on topics related to sports medicine, he has lectured at over 500 meetings in the United States and abroad. He has published 25 chapters in textbooks and over 30 research articles in peer review journals.

Russ is known for his experience in sports medicine and has special interests that include injuries to the knee and shoulder, as well as golfing injuries and conditioning.

"Neuroplasticity: A Novel and Practical Clinical Application to

 Induce FunctionaImprovement"

Mike is the president and co-owner of NWRA. “I am proud of what we have created at NWRA. Our staff includes master clinicians that are exceptional people. It is a pleasure to treat patients alongside them.”

       Mike has been the vice-president of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Neurology Section and has been chair of three different special interest groups at a national level. He has been board-certified as a Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy since 1995 and has published over 25 articles on topics ranging from cognitive rehabilitation, stroke, balance, Parkinson’s and health policy. He has been an invited speaker at many universities, national and international venues since 1992, lecturing in nearly every state during this span.

       Mike holds the distinction as being the only PT in the US to be recognized with the national award for clinical excellence in two different categories, neurology and geriatrics.

On a personal note, Mike is an avid tennis player, triathlete and marathoner; a father of three, and proud sponsor of many local Salem-area charities with his wife, Diane!

Dr. Jim Hedgecock, DPT

& Nicole Harris, PT

Pediatric Track

"Incorporating Resistance Training and Other Intensive Models into Episodic

Care to Improve Function and Participation in Youth with Cerebral Palsy"

Dr. Jim Hedgecock completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy, Pediatric Residency, and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disability (LEND) Fellowship at the University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program. He was recognized as a board certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist in 2015, and has worked in several pediatric settings. Currently, Dr. Hedgecock is a clinical pediatric physical therapist and serves as the Physical Therapy Program Coordinator for Neurodevelopmental Disabilities at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Hedgecock has clinical research interests in evidence based intervention dosing for people with neurodevelopmental disabilities and the importance of gross motor evaluation and intervention for children with autism spectrum disorders, and has published and presented at several local, national and international conferences about these topics. While not pursuing professional interests, Dr. Hedgecock spends his time exploring the mountains, rivers, and rocks of the American West with his family and dog, Trout.

 

Nicole Harris has been a pediatric physical therapist for 20 years and is the foot management program coordinator at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO).  She specializes in treating children with cerebral palsy as well as orthotics, splinting and casting for pediatric patients.  Ms. Harris is a BOCO orthotist and a Pediatric Clinical Specialist.  She initiated the successful intensive model currently used at CHCO. Ms. Harris has done multiple presentations regarding intensive service delivery models, dynamic bracing, gastroc management and idiopathic toe walking for different organizations in Colorado as well as state, national and international conferences.
