Local & National Legislative Action

As many of you know, Utah has been named "The Best State to Practice Physical Therapy" four years in a row by PTInMotion Magazine. This is a great honor for our state, and has come with the hard work of many of you. We have much to look forward to in the future. We wanted to give you a glimpse at how your PAC donations have and can help along with other ways to participate. Your PAC donations do not pay for the UPTA lobbyist.

What we are working on and where we are headed:

•        Rule changes to our practice act with DOPL for joint mobilizations. No longer having the term “chiropractic” in our rules, but accepting APTA’s language “a manual therapy technique comprised of a continuum of skilled passive movements that are applied at varying speeds and amplitudes, including a small amplitude/high velocity therapeutic movement.”

•        Passing Legislation for a PT Compact License.  Utah is currently one of the states beginning the national PT compact license, allowing PTs to practice across participating state lines, while maintaining each state’s practice act.

•        Investigating our future with the ability to order imaging.

•        Build relationships with legislators so they understand the difference between PTs and other professions including ATCs. This includes donating to legislators, attending their events, and maintaining contact with them.

We are official part of the compact and working to give Utah PT and PTAs access! You can learn more HERE.

 How can you help:

- Make a one-time donation or sign up for recurring donations. Something as small as $2 a month would help. LINK HERE

- Donate an item for our silent auction (tickets, gift baskets, dinner or movie passes, etc.). These will be auctioned off at our Fall Conference. You will be recognized for you donation.

-Solicit items from vendors or business owners. You can find a letter to give HERE.

If you choose to donate an item for the auction, please contact Katie Mansell our Executive Director, to arrange pickup. Please include a logo of your business, or your personal business card with your donation, so appropriate credit can be given.

Thank you, in advance, for your donation.  It is of great value to our chapter!
